Turtle Cake - cooking recipe

1 German chocolate cake mix
6 1/2 oz. evaporated milk
14 oz. caramels
1 c. chocolate chips
3/4 c. margarine
1 c. pecan pieces
Preparation

Unwrap caramels.
Prepare cake mix according to directions on box.
Pour half into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Bake 15 minutes in a 350\u00b0 oven.
While batter is baking, melt caramels in margarine and evaporated milk, using double boiler. Remove cake from oven; pour caramel mixture over baked layer. Scatter over that mixture of pecan pieces and chocolate chips. Pour rest of batter over all.
Return to oven and bake 30 to 40 minutes.
