Burgundy Chili - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. finely chopped onion
    1 lb. ground beef chuck
    1/2 c. hot water
    1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes
    1 tsp. dried oregano
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 Tbsp. cooking oil
    1 1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. dried basil
    1 (1 lb. 11 oz.) can red kidney beans
    1/2 c. red wine
Preparation
    Cook onion, garlic and beef in heated oil until lightly browned.
    Stir hot water into chili powder; add to meat mixture along with tomatoes, salt and herbs.
    Cover and simmer over very low heat 45 to 50 minutes.
    Stir in wine and simmer, uncovered, about 20 minutes longer.
    Add beans and heat.
    Serve over hot polenta, rice or squares of corn bread.
    Serves 8.
