Apple Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 egg, beaten
    3 Tbsp. water
    6 c. apples, sliced
    1 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation
    Sift flour and salt in bowl; cut in shortening until mixed. Combine egg and water.
    Add flour; mix well.
    Roll out half of dough to fit bottom and sides of pan (13 x 9 x 2-inch).
    Fill with apples.
    Combine sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon in saucepan.
    Blend in water; cook until thick.
    Pour over apples.
    Roll out other half of dough; put over top and cut slits.
    Bake in a 400\u00b0 oven for 10 minutes, then at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes.
    Frost with thin icing when nearly cool.
