Grandma Lay'S Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. sifted flour *
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk **
3/4 c. boiling water
2 tsp. soda
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar until creamy.
Add salt, eggs and vanilla.
Beat well.
Combine flour and cocoa.
Add these alternately with the buttermilk.
Combine soda and boiling water. Add to batter.
This will seem thin.
Yields 3 (8-inch) layers or one 9 x 12-inch loaf.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
