A Hearty Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 qt. chicken stock
    1 hambone
    1 c. diced salt pork
    6 Tbsp. butter
    3 medium onions, chopped
    2 cloves garlic, chopped
    3 stalks (ribs) celery, chopped
    4 medium carrots, sliced
    1 green bell pepper, chopped
    1 Tbsp. dried rosemary
    5 Tbsp. fennel seed*
    1 bay leaf
    4 medium zucchini, cubed
    1 c. fresh mushrooms
    3 to 4 c. chickpeas, drained
    2 lb. bulk hot country sausage, cooked and drained
    1/2 lb. vermicelli
    6 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped
    2 c. shredded turnip greens or spinach
    1/2 c. fresh parsley
Preparation
    *Omit fennel if using Italian sausage.
