Caramel Oatmeal Cookie Bars - cooking recipe

1 3/4 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt (optional)
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (12.5 oz.) jar caramel ice cream topping
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 c. melted margarine
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 c. flour
Preparation

Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, soda and salt; mix well.
Stir in margarine, mixing well, until blended.
Reserve 1 cup; press rest onto bottom of pan.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown; cool 10 minutes.
Top with nuts and chips to within 1/4 of pan edges.
