Stuffed Peppers - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. ground beef (lean)
    1 large onion, diced
    5 large green peppers, 1/2 c. diced and others halved
    1 egg
    1/2 c. oatmeal
    1/2 c. tomato sauce
    salt and pepper to taste
    sharp cheese, sprinkled over top (optional)
Preparation
    Combine ground beef, onion, 1/2 cup peppers, egg, oatmeal, tomato sauce, salt and pepper.
    Shape into balls and press into green peppers that have been cut in half lengthwise.
    Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven in a deep dish casserole until brown on top, about 1 hour.
    Can be topped with grated cheese when almost done.
    I don't usually cover the casserole, but you can until the last 1/2 hour for more juicy peppers.
    For more variety, you can add 1/2 cup of cooked rice to the meat mixture.
