Candy Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 medium apples
    1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    1/2 white sugar
    1/2 c. corn syrup
    1/2 c. water
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. red food coloring
Preparation
    Wash and dry apples.
    Stick wooden sticks into stem of apples. Combine sugar, corn syrup, water and butter in a deep saucepan. Cook over low heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring constantly. Continue cooking until a small amount of syrup becomes slightly brittle in cold water.
    Remove from heat.
    Add vanilla and coloring.
    Dip apples one at a time into syrup.
    Work quickly. Cool on wax paper or buttered plate.
