Caramel Oatmeal Chewies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 3/4 c. oats (quick or old-fashioned, uncooked)
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. margarine, melted
    1 (14 oz.) bag vanilla caramels (49)
    1/4 c. water
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
    Combine first 5 ingredients.
    Add margarine.
    Mix until crumbly.
    Reserve 1 cup oats mixture for topping.
    Press remaining mixture onto bottom of pan.
    Bake 10 minutes.
    Remove from oven.
