Short Process Sweet Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. sliced cucumbers (or very small ones)
    2 c. slaked lime
    1 gal. water
    3 qt. vinegar
    4 lb. sugar
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1/2 pkg. pickling spice
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers in lime water 24 hours.
    Soak cucumbers in clear water 2 hours.
    Drain 15 minutes.
    Prepare syrup, using vinegar, sugar, salt and pickling spice.
    Tie spice in bag to keep pickles clear.
    Put cucumbers in hot, not boiling syrup.
    Simmer 2 to 3 hours but do not boil.
    Seal while hot.
    Process 10 minutes at simmering temperature.
