Sweet Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    2 Tbsp. coarse salt (fine salt will not work)
    1 tsp. alum
    6 Tbsp. pickling spices
    approximately 1/2 gal. vinegar
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers; pack in gallon jar.
    Add salt, spices and alum.
    Cover with vinegar.
    Cover the lid of jar with waxed paper. Let set for 6 weeks.
    Take out of vinegar (throw the vinegar away).
    Slice the cucumbers and to 1 pint of pickles add 1 cup of sugar.
    Pack pickles back in gallon jar and seal.
    Shake often and the sugar will melt and make a syrup.
