Apricot Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 1/2 sticks butter
    2 c. flour
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. coconut
    3/4 c. walnuts, pecans or almonds
    1 small jar apricot jam
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar.
    Add flour, egg, vanilla and salt. Mix thoroughly.
    Add coconut and nuts.
    Mix with hands.
    Do as pastry.
    Put half of the dough in an 8 x 8-inch pan.
    Spread jam on top of dough.
    Crumble rest of dough over top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
    Cool and cut into squares for serving.
