Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    2/3 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 3/4 c. applesauce
    2 3/4 c. flour
    1 3/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 3/4 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    3/4 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. cut-up dates or raisins
    1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Cream
    sugars,
    shortening,
    and eggs until light.
    Add applesauce,
    mixing well.
    Spoon flour into dry measuring cup. Pour
    flour onto waxed paper and add soda, baking powder, salt and spices.
    Stir well to blend.
    Add blended dry ingredients to creamed
    mixture,
    alternately
    with
    water, beginning and ending with
    dry ingredients.
    Stir in fruit and nuts.
    Blend well.
    Pour into a well greased 9 x 13-inch oblong pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 60 to 65 minutes.
    Cool in pan.
    Frost if desired.
