Devil'S Food Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1/2 c. shortening (half butter)
    2 sq. Baker's unsweetened chocolate
    1/4 c. boiling water
    3 eggs (separate yolks and whites)
    2 c. flour
    1 c. sour or buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. soda
    1/4 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Dissolve Baker's chocolate in 1/4 cup boiling water.
    Beat egg yolks and whites separately.
    Measure flour before sifting. Dissolve soda in 1/4 cup boiling water. Cream the shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks, then chocolate.
    Add buttermilk alternately with flour and vanilla.
    Add soda.
    Fold in beaten egg whites last.
    Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven in a 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan for 30 or 35 minutes.
