Date Nut Torte - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. dates, chopped
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. boiling water
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1/4 c. sugar
    3/4 c. syrup, white corn
    1 egg, well beaten
    1 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1/2 c. nuts, chopped
Preparation
    Place dates in a bowl, sprinkle with soda and pour on boiling water.
    Let stand while preparing other ingredients.
    Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
    Add egg and corn syrup and mix well.
    Add date mixture.
    Add flour that has been sifted before measuring and then mix with nuts.
    Bake in greased pan in 375\u00b0 oven for 30 minutes.
    Serve with whipped cream or hot lemon sauce.
