Self-Frosted Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. finely chopped dates
    1 1/4 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. soda
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1/2 c. chocolate chips
Preparation
    Put dates in a bowl and cover with boiling water.
    Add soda; cool.
    Cream the shortening and sugar; add eggs.
    Sift flour with salt.
    Add to creamed mixture.
    Stir in cooled date mix.
    Spread in a 9 x 13-inch pan, greased and floured.
    Combine sugar, nuts and chocolate chips and sprinkle over batter.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 30 minutes.
