Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. crushed peppermint
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Sift flour and salt.
    Combine all ingredients together.
    Divide dough in half.
    Mix red food coloring in 1/2 dough.
    Roll dough in a strip (each color).
    Place side by side and twist into cane effect.
    Before baking, sprinkle over canes 1/2 cup crushed peppermint and 1/2 cup sugar.
    Bake 9 minutes at 375\u00b0.
