Ingredients
-
3 to 4 slices bread (2 to 3 day old is better)
1 egg
3/4 c. milk
dash of salt
1/2 tsp. granulated sugar
dash of cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
confectioners sugar (optional)
margarine or butter
Preparation
-
Beat egg in a rather flat bowl (soup plate is perfect).
Stir in the salt, granulated sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg until combined well.
Heat large frying pan or griddle on low to medium.
Melt butter or margarine but not browned.
Dip one slice of the bread into egg mixture for a few seconds; turn bread over in egg and let soak a few seconds, being careful not to break up bread.
Cook on hot griddle (low to medium heat) about 5 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
Repeat with rest of the bread slices. Transfer to warm plates and sprinkle with confectioners sugar. Use desired topping:
warm syrup, jelly or fresh fruit.
