Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced, unpeeled medium cucumbers
    4 medium white onions, sliced (6 c.)
    2 green peppers, sliced (1 2/3 c.)
    3 cloves garlic
    1/3 c. pickling salt
    cracked ice
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. cider vinegar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 tsp. alum
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers, onions, green peppers, garlic and salt. Cover with cracked ice.
    Mix well.
    Let mixture stand 3 hours. Drain well. Remove garlic. Combine remaining ingredients.
    Pour over cucumbers and liquid into hot jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.
    Adjust lids.
    Process in boiling water bath (use half pint or pint jars) 5 minutes.
