Ingredients

1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
3 c. quick oats
chocolate chips and spices (optional)
1 c. brown sugar
2 well beaten eggs
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugars; add eggs and vanilla.
Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients, oats and nuts; mix well.
(Add chocolate chips and spices here, if desired.)
Roll in balls the size of walnuts.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Remove from cookie sheet immediately after removing from oven.
