Ingredients

1 pkg. dry yeast
2 c. buttermilk (room temperature)
4 c. flour, unsifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. shortening
1 Tbsp. sugar
Preparation

Add yeast to buttermilk.
Let stand 10 minutes.
Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
Cream together the shortening and sugar.
Alternately add dry ingredients and yeast milk, beating after each addition.
Roll out dough 1/2-inch thick. Cut with 2-inch cutter.
Put on a greased cookie sheet.
Let rise 1 hour.
Bake at 350\u00b0 until golden brown.
