Hoppin' John(Creole Black-Eyed Peas) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 to 6 slices bacon
    1 c. chopped onion
    1 c. chopped green pepper
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 (14 oz.) can tomatoes, drained and chopped
    1 (16 oz.) can black-eyed peas
    1 bay leaf
    2 to 3 tsp. sugar
Preparation
    Cook bacon in skillet until crisp.
    Remove bacon, keeping drippings in pan.
    Saute onion, peppers and celery in drippings until tender.
