German Red Cabbage(Schmorekole) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head red cabbage, cored and chopped in 1-inch pieces
    1 c. good wine vinegar
    1 c. dark molasses
    1 firm small white onion, peeled
    whole cloves
    1 firm apple, peeled, cored and chopped
    1/2 c. red wine (optional)
    salt (optional)
Preparation
    This recipe does not produce the same dish as served in restaurants but a darker, heartier version.
