Nine Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. nine bean soup mix
    2 qt. water
    1 large onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes (undrained), chopped
    1 (10 oz.) can tomatoes and green chilies (optional)
    1 lb. ham, diced
    1/2 to 3/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Sort and wash 2 cups bean mix.
    Place in Dutch oven.
    Cover with water, about 2 inches above beans; let soak overnight. Drain.
    Add the next 5 ingredients.
    Cover and bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until beans are tender.
    Add remaining ingredients; simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    Yields 8 cups.
    Freezes well.
