Squash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 tsp. alum
    6 pt. yellow squash
    1 1/4 c. cider vinegar
    1/4 c. dill
    1/4 tsp. turmeric
    2 tsp. salt
    1 c. sugar
Preparation
    Cut squash into 1/4 by 2-inch stripes.
    Mix 2 teaspoons alum in 1 gallon of water.
    Put in squash and let stand 2 hours. Remove and wash in cold water.
    Mix sugar, dill, vinegar, turmeric and salt.
    Bring to a boil and reduce heat.
    Put in squash and let simmer 3 minutes.
    Let stand one hour; then put in cans and seal.
