Overnight Chunk Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    cucumbers
    1 c. salt, dissolved in 1 gal. water
    vinegar
    sugar and spices to taste
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers in brine overnight (1 cup salt dissolved in 1 gallon of water).
    Drain and cut in chunks.
    Cook until just hot through in vinegar and water to cover, 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water.
    Cook a layer at a time in flat pan.
    Pack in jars.
    Drain off excess liquid.
    Make a syrup to suit your taste as to sugar and spices.
    Pour over pickles in jars to cover, having the syrup boiling hot.
    Seal at once.
