2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. butter
1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. butter
2 1/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
3/4 c. coarsely chopped pecans (optional)
2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. water
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 Tbsp. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
Preparation

Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
Set aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine the 1 cup butter, water and 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. Bring mixture just to boiling, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat. Add the chocolate mixture to dry ingredients and beat with electric mixer on medium to high speed until thoroughly combined. Add eggs, the 1/2 cup buttermilk and the 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Beat for 1 minute (batter will be thin).
Pour the batter into a greased and floured 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan.
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
