Edna'S Baking Powder Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
    2 Tbsp. sugar (optional)
    1/2 c. shortening or regular margarine
    1 egg
    2/3 c. milk or soy milk
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 450\u00b0.
    Sift the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, salt and sugar.
    Add shortening and blend with pastry blender or 2 forks until the consistency of coarse cornmeal. Combine egg and milk; beat well.
    Pour liquid mixture into the dough and stir with a fork unti just blended.
    Put on floured board and knead about 5 minutes.
    Roll to 1/2-inch thickness.
    Cut with biscuit cutter.
    Place biscuits on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
    Serve hot.
    Serves 2 to 4.
