Oatmeal Crunchies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. quick-cooking oats
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    1/4 c. chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.
    Add brown sugar, shortening, egg and vanilla; beat well.
    Stir in oats and nuts.
    Form dough into small balls and dip tops in a little additional sugar.
    Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
    Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
