Shell Beans Italiano - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 to 2 lb. fresh shell beans
    several salt pork cubes or 2 to 3 slices bacon, cut up
    1 c. fresh or canned whole tomatoes
    2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
    1 tsp. basil
    1 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. marjoram
    2 sage leaves
    sprinkling of pepper
Preparation
    After shelling beans, rinse in cold water, then place in saucepan to boil, adding salt pork or bacon.
    Let cook hard at first, then turn down, draining water until beans are just covered.
    Add tomatoes, then herbs (fresh, if possible).
    Stir occasionally with wooden spoon.
    Cook gently about an hour, until tender.
