Hamburger Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 c. chopped onions
    1 c. cubed potatoes
    1 c. sliced carrots
    1 c. shredded cabbage
    1 small bay leaf
    1 c. chopped tomatoes
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. basil
    1 tsp. salt (optional)
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1 1/2 qt. water
    1 c. cubed Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Saute beef until pink disappears and add onion.
    Pour off excess fat.
    Add remainder of ingredients (not cheese) and simmer for 1 hour.
    Place a few cubes of cheese in serving bowl before pouring in soup.
