Scottish Rite Bean Soup - cooking recipe

1 lb. Great Northern navy beans
10 oz. diced ham
9 oz. ground beef, cooked and drained
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 (No. 303) can tomatoes
1 c. tomato juice
2 1/2 c. water
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. black pepper
salt to taste
Preparation

Combine tomatoes, tomato juice and water.
Soak beans 8 hours or overnight.
Chop peppers, celery and onions.
Add these and broken up tomatoes to drained beans.
Add beef, ham and seasoning and simmer until beans are done.
Can be cooked in a crock-pot on high for 8 hours or longer.
Fills a 3 1/2-quart crock-pot.
Makes a thick soup.
