Candied Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 c. granulated sugar
    3 c. water
    3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    9 medium apples (your choice)
Preparation
    Cook all ingredients except apples until the temperature reaches 290\u00b0.
    Do not stir.
    Add several drops of red food coloring.
    Place pan in hot water to keep from hardening.
    Begin dipping apples at once.
    Cool on greased surface.
