Layered Lettuce Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 head lettuce, torn into small pieces
    3 ribs celery or less, diced
    1/2 to 3/4 c. chopped sweet onion
    1 small can peas, heat until hot, then drain well
    mayonnaise
    1/2 c. shredded Swiss or Cheddar cheese
    tomato wedges
    croutons (small amount)
    bacon bits (optional)
Preparation
    Layer lettuce, celery, onion and peas.
    Spread mayonnaise over the peas.
    Sprinkle with cheese.
    Cover airtight and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.
    Just before serving, add croutons and toss well.
    Garnish with tomatoes.
    Sprinkle with bacon bits.
