Ingredients

2 1/4 c. sifted self-rising flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. soft shortening
1 c. sweet milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla or 1/2 vanilla and 1/2 almond
3 eggs (save 2 whites for icing)
Preparation

Sift together flour and sugar.
Add shortening and 1/2 of milk; beat for 2 minutes.
Add remaining milk, flavoring and unbeaten eggs.
Beat another 2 minutes.
Pour into 2 layer cake pans which have been greased and floured.
Bake for 30 minutes at 325\u00b0.
Cool and frost.
