Ingredients

2 c. sugar (white)
1 c. lard or Crisco shortening
1 egg
3 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk (sweet or canned milk)
4 c. flour (more or less)
canned pie filling
Preparation

In a large bowl, cream the sugar and shortening.
Then add the egg and mix well.
Next, add the vanilla, baking powder, soda and salt and mix well.
Add the milk and mix well again.
Add enough flour to make a soft dough that will roll easily.
Roll and cut with a round cookie cutter (perhaps 2 1/2 inches).
Dough should be rolled out to at least 1/8-inch thickness.
Have the dough chilled and the board very lightly floured for rolling.
