Peanut Brittle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. sugar
    1/2 bottle light syrup
    1 1/2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 lb. raw peanuts
    butter
    1 rounded tsp. soda
    1/2 Tbsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Put sugar, syrup, water and salt on hot fire.
    Stir until it starts to boil.
    Wash down sides of kettle with wet cloth.
    Cover until it steams well.
    Remove cover, insert candy thermometer and cook to 275\u00b0.
    Add peanuts and butter.
    Stir constantly, until peanuts are roasted.
    Remove from fire.
    Mix soda and vanilla; stir into candy.
    Pour onto a buttered marble slab.
    Spread thin. Allow to harden.
    Break.
