Dutch Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 egg
    3 1/2 to 4 c. sliced, pared and cored apples
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    3 Tbsp. melted butter
    1/3 c. current jelly or apricot jam
    1 Tbsp. hot water
Preparation
    Sift flour, baking powder, salt and 3 tablespoons sugar.
    With pastry blender, cut in shortening until like coarse corn meal. With a fork stir in combined egg and milk.
    Spread dough in a greased 12 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
    On top, arrange apple slices, slightly overlapping in parallel rows, with pointed edges down.
    Sprinkle with combined cinnamon, nutmeg, 3 tablespoons sugar and butter.
    Bake 35 minutes at 400\u00b0 or until apples are tender.
    Beat jelly with water to make syrup.
    Brush over fruit when done.
