Old-Fashioned Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. yellow or green diced peas
    1 ham bone or small pieces leftover ham, chopped fine
    1 carrot, finely diced
    1/4 c. barley
    1 medium onion, finely chopped
    1 c. diced raw potatoes
    4 c. chicken broth
    4 c. water
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Soak peas overnight; drain water.
    Add all ingredients to peas. Cook 4 to 5 hours in large pot over low heat, stirring occasionally or cook in slow cooker 8 to 10 hours on low.
    Serves 8 to 10.
