Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce
    1 c. diced green pepper
    1 c. diced celery
    1/2 pkg. peas, cooked and cooled
    1/2 c. diced onion
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 c. mayonnaise
    6 oz. Cheddar cheese, shredded
    6 slices crisp bacon, crumbled (or bacon bits)
Preparation
    In large bowl, layer in first 5 ingredients.
    Sprinkle sugar on top.
    Evenly spread mayonnaise on top.
    Cover.
    Refrigerate 24 hours.
    Toss just before serving.
    Serves 8 to 10.
