Everlasting Rolls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
3 pkg. dry yeast or 1 cake dry or compressed yeast
    1/2 c. warm water
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. warm water
    8 c. flour
Preparation
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water and 1/2 teaspoon sugar for 45 minutes.
Blend shortening with 1/2 cup sugar.
Add beaten egg with mixer until light.
Add salt, warm water and dissolved yeast. Mix well.
Add enough sifted flour to make a stiff dough.
Turn out on board and knead until elastic to the touch, using up the rest of the flour.
(Perhaps a little more flour may be needed if dough feels sticky.)
Put the dough in a greased bowl in a warm place to double its bulk.
The dough may be kneaded down and shaped into rolls and baked or put in refrigerator for future use.
