Fried Chicken - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1 (2 1/2 to 3 lb.) broiler/fryer chicken, cut up
    shortening
Preparation
    In a bowl, combine first 4 ingredients.
    Wash and dry chicken; coat pieces in flour mixture.
    In a skillet, melt shortening to 1/2-inch depth over medium-high heat.
    Fry chicken (in batches if necessary) in hot shortening until golden brown on all sides. Return all chicken to pan; cover and cook over low heat until chicken is done, about 30 minutes.
    Makes 8 servings.
