German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 eggs
    2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    dash of salt
    1 tsp. soda
    1 bar German sweet chocolate
Preparation
    Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup boiling water and set aside.
    Beat egg whites until stiff and set aside. Cream shortening, sugar and egg yolks.
    Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
    Add flour and buttermilk alternately to creamed mixture.
    Add the melted chocolate and vanilla.
    Fold in egg whites.
    Bake in 3 (9-inch) cake pans (greased and floured) at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
    Cool and put Filling between layers.
