Pecan Toffee - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/3 c. butter
    2/3 c. water
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. chopped pecans
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces or 4 oz. broken milk chocolate bars
    1 extra c. finely chopped pecans
Preparation
    In 2-quart saucepan, combine first 4 ingredients. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it boils. Cook, without stirring, to 236\u00b0 or soft ball. Add chopped pecans; continue cooking to 290\u00b0, soft-crack stage, stirring constantly. Remove form heat. Mixture changes to a deep caramel color. Stir in soda. Turn out onto greased cookie sheet. Spread until even. Immediately spread with chocolate pieces. Spread chocolate over top as it melts. Sprinkle with 1 cup chopped pecans. Cool. Break into pieces.
