French Toast Casserole - cooking recipe

1 large loaf French bread
8 large eggs
3 c. milk
4 Tbsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. butter, cut into small pieces
Preparation

Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish; cut bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange slices in a single layer over bottom of dish. Beat eggs, milk, sugar, salt and vanilla together; pour over bread and dot with butter.
Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight. Bake in 350\u00b0 oven, uncovered, for 45 to 50 minutes.
Serve and top with syrup or powdered sugar; cinnamon can be sprinkled over bread before baking, if desired.
Serves 4 to 6.
