Cellophane Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. cucumbers
    2 Tbsp. alum
    2 pt. vinegar
    1 pt. water
    5 lb. sugar
    1 oz. allspice (whole)
    3 sticks cinnamon
    green food coloring
Preparation
    Wash and slice thin the cucumbers.
    Soak 24 hours in salt water (1/2 cup salt to 1 quart water), then drain.
    Cover with fresh water for 24 hours, then drain.
    Simmer in weak vinegar water with 2 tablespoons alum for 3 hours.
