Ingredients

4 c. sifted flour (plain)
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
1/4 tsp. soda
3/4 c. shortening
Preparation

Sift flour once; measure, add baking powder, soda and salt and sift again.
Cut in shortening; add milk gradually until soft dough is formed.
Turn on floured board and knead lightly, 2 minutes.
Roll to desired thickness; cut with floured cutter. Bake in shallow pan in hot oven at 450\u00b0 for 12 minutes.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen biscuits.
