Ingredients

3/4 c.shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. soda
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Melt shortening over low heat.
Cool.
Add next 3 ingredients. Beat well.
Add dry ingredients.
Chill at least 1hour.
Shape in 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
Bake only until light brown and cracks appear, 8 to 10 minutes at 375\u00b0.
Makes 6 to 7 dozen.
