Nannie'S Beaten Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. flour
    6 oz. lard
    scant tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 c. cold water
    pinch of baking soda (size of pea)
Preparation
    Work all well into a stiff dough.
    Beat with a wooden mallet or an axe head until blister forms, 30 to 45 minutes.
    Make into biscuits.
    Prick with fork tine and bake 25 minutes at 400\u00b0.
