Old Time Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. stew meat
    2 Tbsp. oil or shortening
    3 c. water
    1 medium onion
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 clove garlic
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. paprika
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    dash of allspice or cloves
    6 medium carrots, quartered
    6 medium potatoes, quartered
    1 lb. pearl small onions
    1/4 c. water
    2 Tbsp. flour
Preparation
    Brown meat, then add water and vegetables.
    Cover and cook 30 to 45 minutes or until all is tender at checking.
    Combine the water and flour to make paste.
    Add to the stew to thicken juices. Yields 9 cups.
